We had the pleasure of spending a week at Burdette Park in Evansville, Indiana last summer, and it quickly became one of the most enjoyable campground stays we
have had in the region. Burdette Park is located just outside of Evansville, only about a ten-minute drive to the center of downtown. That location gives
visitors the best of both worlds. You are close enough to town to pick up groceries, fuel, supplies, or enjoy restaurants and attractions, while still being far
enough away to enjoy the quiet countryside atmosphere that many campers look for.
From the moment we arrived, we found the management and staff to be friendly, helpful, and easy to work with. That can make a major difference when traveling,
especially after a long day on the road. They were welcoming, knowledgeable about the park, and ready to answer questions. During peak camping season, we would
strongly recommend calling early for reservations rather than waiting until the last minute. This park is popular for good reason, and desirable sites can fill
quickly during busy weekends and summer months.
The campground facilities were clean, organized, and well maintained during our visit. It was obvious that pride is taken in keeping the park in good condition.
Roads were in decent shape, the grounds were attractive, and common areas looked cared for. Unfortunately, the pool was drained for maintenance while we were
there, so we were unable to use it, but it was encouraging to see that maintenance was being handled properly rather than ignored. A park that keeps up with
repairs and improvements is always a positive sign.
RV travelers should know there is one particularly sharp turn within the campground road system. If you have a longer RV, larger fifth wheel, or travel trailer,
it is a smart idea to let the office know when making your reservation. They can direct you to an easier route using alternate roads through the park, helping
you avoid that tighter corner. Aside from that one turn, the sites themselves were easy to access and maneuver into. We appreciate parks that understand the
needs of RV owners and are willing to help make arrival easier.
One of the biggest strengths of Burdette Park is the variety of amenities available. This is more than just a simple RV campground. The park offers rental
lodges for those who prefer a cabin-style stay, making it a good option for families or groups with different lodging preferences. There is also an aquatics
center, which is a major attraction during warm weather. Families traveling with children would likely find this especially appealing. In addition, there
are day-use areas that make the park popular with locals and visitors alike.
Tent campers are also welcome, and when we visited there were primitive camping sites available. That makes Burdette Park a versatile destination because
it can accommodate everyone from tent campers to fully equipped motorhomes. During our stay, our site had water, electricity, and sewer hookups, which made
for a very comfortable week. A few sites did not offer sewer service, but there was a central dump station available, which is common and perfectly workable
for many RV travelers.
We especially appreciated using Burdette Park as a home base for family functions in both Kentucky and the Evansville area. Its location made day trips simple
and convenient. Madisonville, Kentucky was only about an hour away, which allowed us to attend family events while still returning each evening to a peaceful
campsite. For travelers visiting southwestern Indiana, western Kentucky, or the tri-state area, this park is ideally positioned.
While staying there, we also enjoyed being close to Evansville itself. Evansville offers shopping centers, restaurants, grocery stores, riverfront attractions,
and local history. Having quick access to a city without having to camp in an urban setting is something many travelers value. You can enjoy sightseeing during
the day, then return to a quiet campsite in the evening.
Another thing worth mentioning is the atmosphere of the park. Some campgrounds feel crowded or overly commercialized, but Burdette Park still felt relaxing
and spacious. There was room to breathe, room to walk, and a calmer pace that made it easy to unwind. After busy travel days, that kind of environment is
priceless.
If you are planning a camping trip through Indiana or Kentucky, Burdette Park deserves consideration. It works well for overnight stops, week-long stays,
family reunions, and regional sightseeing trips. Whether you are in a tent, travel trailer, fifth wheel, or motorhome, the range of campsite options and
amenities makes it appealing for many styles of camping.
We cannot stress enough how much we enjoyed our stay there. Friendly staff, a convenient location, solid amenities, and a peaceful setting all combined
to make it a memorable week. We would gladly stay again in the future.
